Useful Information - Climate

An idyllic climate
Temperatures can range from 25C to above 30C all year round.
The Northern Highlands
The northern highlands at 5000 feet above sea level experience dryer and cooler heat.
Coastal Regions
The coastal regions can be more humid than the highlands. In the winter months (March to September) it can get chilly at night on the coast. Cotton clothing is recommended for these climates.
Beach Seaweed – Please note that at certain time s of the year seaweed does land on the beach at high tide and it sometimes can bring in with it some debris (litter). However it is very unpredictable and some years it is worse than others. It does tend to be at it’s worst during the Equinox high tide in September. However the beach directly in-front of the lodge is raked every day so it clear of any weed at any time of the year.
What to wear:-
At the beach
We suggest light 100% cotton clothes, sandals or flip-flops. The paths at The Tides are sandy so high heels are unsuitable. A wide brimmed hat is also recommended.
On safari
We would recommend that you wear subdued coloured clothing on safari to avoid attracting insects. You will also need:-
- strong walking boots,
- light waterproof jacket
- long trousers
- a hat
- and warm clothing for cool nights
For sightseeing
Out of respect for different religions we recommend that modest clothing is worn. Long sleeves and long skirts or loose fitting trousers would be suitable.
The Rainy Season
The rainy season is between March and May. It is however, the best time to travel if you want to enjoy your safari without seeing many other tourists. Some places however, do close in the long rains.
