Useful Information - Health & Safety
Immunizations
If you are travelling directly from Europe or USA you are not legally obliged to have any immunizations. It is recommended by National Health Authorities that you do have immunization.

Vaccinations highly recommended:
- Yellow Fever – you may need a certificate for this
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A
- Diphtheria
- Rabies
- Polio
- Tetanus
Malaria
There is a risk of malaria all over Tanzania. Ensure your Doctor is aware of your destination. You can then be given the appropriate type of anti-malarial medication.
Precautions taken at The Tides
- We have the added benefit of a sea breeze all year round deterring mosquitoes.
- Our rooms have nets over the beds and on the windows.
- Our house girls spray the rooms every night to ensure there are no mosquitoes in the room.
Medical facilities
Outside Dar es Salaam medical facilities are limited. There is no free treatment. Please ensure your medical insurance covers evacuation.
Drinking Water
- At The Tides our water is pumped from our own wells.
- The drinking water is passed through an ionizer producing 100% pure drinking water.
- Bottled water is also available for purchase at the bar and restaurant.
Safety
You may be badgered by pushy souvenir sellers and beach boys in major cities like:-
- Arusha
- Dar es Salaam
- and Stone Town in Zanzibar
It is sensible to remain polite at all times.
The Roads
The tarmac roads in Tanzania are generally in bad condition. The bush roads are mere dirt tracks. These can be treacherous in the long rainy season.
The Rainy Season
The rainy season is between March and May. It is however, the best time to travel if you want to enjoy your safari without seeing many other tourists. Some places however, do close in the long rains.
