The Southern Safaris offer something different
All the safari parks have something special about them. Saadani National Park is the only park in Tanzania that stretches right onto the beach.
There are two main National Parks in the Southern Circuit and one game reserve:-
- Ruaha National Park
- Saadani National Park,
- Selous Game Reserve
Ruaha National Park
Tanzania’s second largest park, it is a wilderness frequented by very few tourists, making it a really exclusive destination and a really authentic safari experience.
Breathtaking Scenery
A remote park with breathtaking scenery and undisturbed wildlife.
Home to thousands of Elephants
Home to more than 10,000 elephants inhabit the park, some of the highest concentrations in the country.
400 Species of Birds
With over 400 species of birds it would appeal to ornithologists.
Great Ruaha River
Go on a boat safari arranged by one of the few camps in the Park. This is the main feature of the game viewing. It is spectacular with Hippos, Crocodiles and Fish Eagles in abundance.

Saadani National Park

A Unique Park
Saadani is the most unique of all the Parks in Tanzania - where bush and beach become one.
Relatively undiscovered by tourists
Declared a National Park in 2003 it is still relatively undiscovered by tourists. It is therefore the perfect destination for a truly special intimacy with Africa.
A diverse environment
Saadani contains a diverse array of flora, fauna and animals. Swahili culture and wildlife happily co-exist. The indigenous vegetation and birdlife adds to the Park’s uniqueness.

The Wami River Safari
The Park incorporates the spectacular Wami River. Take a river cruise where you will see:-
- Large pods of hippos
- Lots of crocodiles
- and spectacular bird life
Wildlife
The Park includes 1,148 sq km of protected area where you can spot:-
- Wildebeest,
- Lion
- Zebra,
- Giraffe,
- Eland,
- Buffalo,
- Elephant
- Leopard
- and the extremely rare Roosevelt Sable Antelope.

Selous Game Reserve
The Selous Game Reserve is the largest uninhabited protected area in Africa, and home to Africa’s largest population of Elephants that roam freely in an area the size of Switzerland.
Fly Direct
You can fly direct to Selous Game Reserve from Dar es Salaam airport. It is also possible to charter a flight direct to the tides from Selous.
Attractions
In contrast to the National Parks the Selous Game Reserve allows you to view the abundant wildlife in a number of ways. This includes:-
- game drives,
- river cruises
- and guided walking tours.
Animals
See the numerous animals that inhabit this wilderness. These may include:-
- Lion,
- Leopard,
- Elephant,
- Wild Dogs,
- Hyena,
- Buffalo,
- Giraffe,
- Zebras,
- Wildebeest,
- and an array of grazing antelope, crocodiles, and hippos.
Other activities
It is possible to spend nights out ‘fly camping’ in the bush for the more adventurous. Alternatively take a more civilised early morning lake cruise followed by a ‘bush’ breakfast under an Acacia Tree.
