General Information
Electricity is 230 volts, 50 Hertz and you can find two and three pin in Tanzania. At The Tides we use the UK standard three square pins plug.
Internet
Most cities and larger towns in Tanzania have Internet cafes. The Tides has an Internet facility
Luggage Weight
On domestic flights the luggage allowance is usually 15kg per person. Also the smaller planes prefer soft suitcases if possible.
We recommend that you travel light. Lots of the hotels offer laundry facilities.
Photography
If you want to take a picture of a Tanzanian we would recommend that you ask first. A small donation is often appreciated.
Tipping
Some hotels and lodges have a Tips Box at reception. This is so that all the staff can benefit from tips and not just the “front of house” staff. It is wise therefore to establish whether there is a system in place where you are staying.
On treks and safaris some of the staff such as drivers, guides, porters and cooks depend on tips as part of their livelihood. Many operators have tipping guidelines. Try to give your tips directly to the staff wherever possible.
